Maura age 16 working on a piece

Maura Green, knows that jewelry can be deeply personal, and she creates her pieces “to endure, to transcend, to celebrate, to remember, to protect, to shine.” Maura has her own inspiration when creating a piece, but the wearer’s own intention and perspective is what activates the pieces, brings them to life and makes them meaningful.

A trained bench jeweler, designer, and longtime NYC resident- Maura’s obsession with jewelry and adornment began early. As a very young girl Maura’s father would bring her “antiquing” with him on Sundays- while her dad admired large scale furniture and art, Maura migrated towards the little sparkly odds and ends in the jewelry display cases. She fell in love with the transformational aspect of jewelry- how it acts upon and activates the body of the wearer. Her style is inspired heavily by both the Victorian jewelry and sentimentality of the late 1800s, the clean modern lines of the Deco jewelry from the 1940s.

Maura first picked up a jeweler’s torch at the age of 15 at Camp Nokomis, an all girls summer camp on Lake Winnpesaukee, and never looked back, spending her remaining high school summers and weekends apprenticing with Deborah Dubois, a metalsmith at Glen Echo Park, an arts center outside her hometown of Washington D.C.

After receiving a BFA from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2004 with a concentration in jewelry and metals, Maura has gone on to work in all facets of the jewelry industry: from custom pieces for friends, to working in a fine jewelry retail store while hustling to sell her work at designers markets around NYC, to designing collections for some of the largest jewelry retailers in the US for a large scale manufacturer. Each step has led her back to the desire to share her personal creative vision.

After Maura and her husband Andrew welcomed a son A.J. in 2016, the designer took some time off, but the pull to create a new collection began to resurface as the exhaustion of postpartum began to fade, and in 2019 Maura launched Maura Green Jewelry. Maura continues to work with private clients on custom pieces- contact us with questions about custom work.
